GREEN FEATHER FOUNDATION SUPPORTS  40K TOWARDS INDIGENOUS FOOD SOVEREIGNTY, SECURITY, AND EDUCATION WITH FIRST FOODS PROGRAM.

April 1, 2020

The Grinding Stone Collective received a $40,000 grant from Green Feather Foundation. The grant supported First Foods programs to promote Indigenous Food Sovereignty, Security and Education.

Grinding Stone Collective's main program, First Foods, promotes food sovereignty for Indigenous peoples through education, community, and mutual aid. Indigenous culture-bearers and knowledge-keepers lead a series of classes, providing invaluable Indigenous technology. This becomes a platform for a community seeking to integrate and implement into their daily lives healthy and sustainable Indigenous practices. They then have the ability to pass on to the next and through subsequent generations essential elements of Indigenous culture. Additionally the program has a long term goal of developing food culture centers that will host cultural educators, provide learning centers and house kitchens and food preservation and storage areas, seed banks, and pantries. We hope to build an Indigenous highway of culture, food, and stories online and off-line.

Access is crucial to establish and maintain food security. Funding, grants and award money is largely allocated and dedicated to feeding Indigenous People Indigenous foods. Grinding Stone Collective Inc. strives to uplift Indigenous peoples through resource, programming, and platform development. We create visibility and jobs for marginalized communities on media platforms. We develop digital spaces for Natives to showcase their knowledge and skills while simultaneously growing in community. Grinding Stone culminates from years of building networks and creating spaces online organically. Through innovative use of technology for educational platforms, Grinding Stone Collective creates space for Indigenous peoples to build community, combat erasure, and engage societal issues all over the Americas.
