The Grinding Stone Collective recently received a $10,000 grant from the First Nations Development Institute of Longmont, Colorado. This award will support the efforts of the First Foods: Intertribal Food Pantry & Co-Op.

An important part of food security is accessibility. The large majority of these funds will go towards feeding Indigenous People Indigenous foods via our Inter-tribal pantry project. Grinding Stone Collective Inc. strives to uplift Indigenous peoples through resource, programming, and platform development. We create visibility and jobs for marginalized communities on media platforms. We develop digital spaces for Natives to showcase their knowledge and skills while simultaneously growing in community. Grinding Stone culminates from years of building networks and creating spaces online organically. Through innovative use of technology for educational platforms, Grinding Stone Collective creates space for Indigenous peoples to build community, combat erasure, and engage societal issues all over the Americas.

Our flagship program, First Foods, promotes food sovereignty for Indigenous peoples through education, community, and mutual aid. Through an educational series led by Indigenous culture-bearers and knowledge-keepers, we build a platform for a community seeking healthy and sustainable Indigenous practices to implement in their daily lives. Aside from platform development, the program’s long term goals include developing food culture centers that will host cultural educators, food preservation houses and kitchens, seed banks, learning centers, and pantries. We hope to build an Indigenous highway of culture, food, and stories online and off-line.
