Mary Opwam is a Nehiyaw Iskwew from Sweetgrass First Nation community member. She took her first holistic food course in 2007 while working on her Bachelor of Arts at University nuhelot’įne thaiyots’į nistameyimâkanak Blue Quills, which opened her eyes to the importance of Indigenous food sovereignty. She has written and coordinated many programs for Indigenous people including nutrition, and employment as well as self-defense for Indigenous women. Mary currently works as an FSW to house the houseless Indigenous population in Edmonton Alberta.
